LCMS hoops teams go 5-1

The Lincoln County Middle School boys basketball teams gave their fans plenty to cheer about this past week, going 5-1 on the home hardwood.

The Eagles swept Meece Middle of Somerset 3-0 Saturday and claimed two wins against Boyle County last Thursday. The only blemish on the record this week was a 41-38 loss to Boyle in eighth-grade action.

Meece Middle at Lincoln
6th Grade
Lincoln 41, Meece 39
Sawyer Horton poured in 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals and three blocks and Blade Nuckols scored 11 points and had four steals and three assists to help lead Lincoln’s sixth-grade Eagles over Meece Middle School 41-39.

Lincoln (13-3) jumped out to a 15-9 first-quarter lead and outpointed Meece 6-2 in the second quarter to post a 21-11 halftime lead. 

The Eagles would need the early lead to hold off Meece as the visitors outscored Lincoln 28-20 in the second half.

Connor Davis finished with nine points and Seth Horton had four.

7th Grade
Lincoln 56, Meece 14
The Lincoln County seventh-grade Eagles cruised past Meece Middle School 56-14.

The Eagles (15-1) exploded out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead and Meece never threatened.

Lincoln led 34-6 at the break and outscored Meece 22-8 in the second half.

Trevor Miracle paced Lincoln in the win with 14 points and eight rebounds and Tramane Alcorn followed with 11 points and six rebounds. Layne Lark contributed nine points, Jackson Sims had eight points, Brian Gray, four, Zack Moore and Connor Davis, three points each, Jansen McAninch, two points and five assists and Bo Wallin, two points.

8th Grade
Lincoln 48, Meece 25
Lincoln’s eighth-grade Eagles closed out Saturday’s tripleheader with a 48-25 rout of Meece Middle.

Lincoln (13-3) led 9-4 after the first and 18-12 at the half. The Eagles opened up their lead with a 13-6 third-quarter run then put the game away with a 17-7 fourth quarter.

Clayton Davis pushed in 12 points and had five steals in the win. Lee Amon had nine points, six rebounds and three steals, Cruise Wilson had seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, Tramane Alcorn had five points, Colin Green and Lawson Hon each had four points, Skyler Quinn and Ryan York had three points and Layne Lark had one point.

6th Grade
Lincoln 51, Boyle 24
Lincoln’s sixth-grade used consistent double-digit scoring to put away Boyle County 51-24.

The Eagles led 10-6 after the first and used a 14-6 edge in the second period to lead 24-12 at the break. They showed an 11-6 advantage in the third for a 35-18 ballgame then closed on a 16-6 run.

Seth Horton and Sawyer Horton combined for 32 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead Lincoln. Seth finished with 18 points and five steals while Sawyer tallied 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Blade Nuckols added nine points, Connor Davis had four points and six assists, Elan Lane, Jacob Moore and Skylar Thompson all had two points.

7th Grade
Lincoln 45, Boyle 41
The Lincoln County Eagles rallied to defeat Boyle County 45-41 in the seventh-grade game.

Lincoln trailed 9-8 after the first but had nosed on top 22-21 by the half. Boyle regained the lead in the third quarter, using a 10-4 scoring edge to take a 31-26 lead into the fourth quarter. 

The Eagles would negate the Boyle lead in the final frame, though, surging 19-10 to earn the win.

Colton Ralston led Lincoln in scoring with 16 points. He also had two blocks. Tramane Alcorn also hit double figures with 11 points. Layne Lark finished with eight points, six rebounds and three steals, Jansen McAninch had six points, two assists and three steals and Zack Moore had four points and two blocks.

8th Grade
Boyle 41, Lincoln 38
Visiting Boyle County got the upper hand on Lincoln in the eighth-grade contest, using a 16-5 second quarter surge to edge past the Eagles 41-38.

Lincoln led 11-7 after one before Boyle rallied in the second quarter to go on top 23-16 at the half. The Eagles would outscore Boyle in the second half, however, the 22-18 advantage would not be enough to overcome the halftime deficit. 

Leading Lincoln was Lee Amon with 11 points and eight rebounds. Colin Green added eight points, Clayton Davis had seven points and three steals, Cruise Wilson added six points, seven rebounds, five assists and four blocks, Skyler Quinn had four points and Tramane Alcorn had two.
