Lincoln County students, who completed the Governor’s Scholar, Roger’s Scholar, and Roger’s Explorer programs,  were recognized by the Board of Education and given a Patriot Award for their accomplishments. 

Baylor Mattingly and John Parker Hughes participated in the Roger’s Explorers program. The Roger’s Explorers program is an intensive three-day, two-night program focused on cultivating skills in leadership, technology, math, science, and community service. It is developed, coordinated, and supervised by The Center for Rural Development in partnership with University of the Cumberlands, Lindsey Wilson College, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Asbury University, University of Pikeville, and Union College.

Activities throughout the program are both educational and fun. Classroom projects are very hands-on. Explorers are able to actively participate in practical college courses, fine-tune leadership skills, and develop a network of friends and resources throughout Southern and Eastern Kentucky region.

Taylor Wesley participated in the Roger’s Scholars program. The Roger’s Scholars program provides valuable leadership skills and exclusive college scholarship opportunities for high school students to fulfill their potential as the region’s next generation of business and entrepreneurial leaders.

During the one-week summer leadership program, Roger’s Scholars learn about different career paths in healthcare, engineering, and energy solutions; network with state and entrepreneurial leaders; and step outside their comfort zones to try new experiences and adventures.

Roby Mullins, Emma Kaiser, Madelyn Day, Madisen Hinkle, Adie Hogue and Reed Campbell were Governor’s Scholars participant. The Governor’s Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an extensive application and compete with others from across the state. The five week summer program takes place at one of the following: Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, or Morehead State University.
