There were no days off for members of the Lincoln County Middle School boys basketball teams the weekend before Thanksgiving, as the Eagles went full force in the Gatorade King of the Bluegrass Invitational at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.

Each team played two pool play games, with the top two teams in each pool moving on to the championship bracket while the bottom two teams in the bracket moved to the gold bracket.

Both the Lincoln seventh- and eighth-grade teams swept their pool play games to move on to the championship bracket and both finished 3-1 and bowed out in the semifinal round. The Lincoln sixth-grade team went 1-1 in pool play and advanced to the gold bracket where the Eagles won the championship game.

The Lincoln seventh-graders, now 11-1, won their first three games, defeating West Jessamine 58-36 and Beaumont Middle School 40-32 in pool play then following with a 48-23 victory over Jesse Clark Middle. Clay County knocked Lincoln out in the semifinals, edging the Eagles 51-50.

In the eighth-grade tourney, the Eagles also won their first three games, rolling 44-20 over Royal Springs of Scott County and 47-33 over Corbin in pool play. Lincoln, now 11-2, bested Danville Bate 51-47 in the championship tourney quarterfinals but went down to defeat to Crosby Middle of Louisville 55-48 in the semifinals.

The sixth-grade Eagles, now 9-3, split their pool play games, defeating Manchester Middle 69-40 in their opening game then falling 32-27 to Jefferson County Traditional Middle School, which put them in the gold bracket.

Lincoln, the No. 1 seed in the gold bracket, earned a bye in the first round. The Eagles took care of East Jessamine in the semifinal round in a 47-26 rout, then romped their way to the title win by trouncing Lexington Christian Academy 44-28 in the championship game.
