Mission Team free shopping event

Green River Pentecostal Church Christmas Blessings Mission Team will hold its free shopping for parents on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 8 a.m. to ?? The church is located at 7337 Hwy 698 in Hustonville. Here are a few things to note for parents/guardians: 1) shopping is for children ages 0-18 years;  2) you MUST bring one of the following for each of your children: a birth certificate, medical card/insurance card,  another form of legal ID or a signed letter on letterhead (from doctor, school, or church) acknowledging guardianship of each child and their age; and 3) if you are not the child’s parent or legal guardian, you will need to bring a signed letter from the parent or legal guardian that gives you permission to shop for their child and the reason they could not attend. *Be sure the parent gives your name as the person they give permission to shop for their child.

November meeting

The Lincoln County RAP (Relatives as Parents) group will meet Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 5  p.m. at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 100 John Street. These meetings are for anyone raising children other than their own. Meet author Angela Correll at Lincoln County Public Library on Monday, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. Angela will discuss the May Hollow Triology featuring Grounded, Guarded, and the newly released Granted. •The Lincoln County Health Department will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

•The Lincoln County Public Library will be closed November 23-26. The library will be upgrading network equipment to increase capacity to connect to the Internet and provide better service. No items will be due during this time. No late fees will be charged for those days.

Christmas Bazaar

Crab Orchard Elementary PTO is hosting its sixth annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There will be around 20 vendors. Door prizes will be available at some of the vendor’s tables. There will be a silent auction and refreshments.

Logan’s Fort

Join us for an open house to celebrate the construction of our new cabins. Experience Logan’s Fort as it would have been decorated in the late 1700’s. Open house is from 2 to 4 on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Logan-Whitley Chapter, DAR annual Christmas Dinner

Join us for our annual Logan-Whitley DAR Christmas dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m at Cindy Williams, 4000 Knob Lick Road, Stanford. There is no better place to get into the holiday spirit than at Cindy’s. She is the decorator extraordinaire!! DEADLINE for reservations is: Tuesday, Dec. 5. Drugs in Plain Sight

Drugs in Plain Sight – join us for a night of pertinent information about the drugs affecting our community and ways to protection your children. Trooper Robert Purdy of the Kentucky State Police will meet with the community on Monday, Dec. 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County High School auditorium. Snow Royalty applications

Applications are now available for Snow Royalty. Snow Princess ages 4-6, Snow Duchess 7-9, and Countess 10-middle school. Applications are available at the Chamber office, at Blue Monday Pink Tuesday or online at lincolncountychamber.com. Interviews will be held at Fort Logan Hospital, Tuesday, Nov. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. for the princess, 6:30 p.m. for Duchess and 7 p.m. for Countess. Call the Chamber at 365-4118 for questions or more information. Entry fee is $20.

Open enrollment for health insurance through HealthCare.gov runs November 1 through December 15. If you do not have coverage through HealthCare.gov today but think you may qualify—this is your chance to enroll. Go to HealthCare.gov to find out! MHS ladies luncheon

Tax preparation class

Patriot Tax Service will hold classes (no charge) of tax preparation starting December 5 and running through January 11. The class will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Stanford office. For more information, contact Marsha at (859) 583-0798.

Holiday food drive

The third annual “Bringing in the Christmas Season with Song-Food Drive” sponsored by the Stanford Lion’s Club will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 2294 Hwy. 27 South (one mile south of Lincoln County High School). Admission is non-perishable food. Join us in welcoming the holiday season with some wonderful local singers and entertainers. Refreshments will be served.

Early Childhood Center new facility

Stanford Early Childhood Center will celebrate the opening of its facility, located at 903 Danville Ave., with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Nov 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be tours. Refreshments will be served.

Herndon Ave. closed for maintenance

Attention residents: Herndon Ave. will be blocked for approximately two weeks (starting Nov. 8) while the State is working on a water issue at the corner of Herndon Ave. and Lancaster Street.

Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary selling poinsettias

Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary is conducting its annual poinsettia sale. Each red poinsettia will have five to seven blooms in a gold foil covered pot. Cost is $10 each. Deadline to order is November 26. Delivery date will be December 1. To order, call Adele DeFosset at (606) 365-2209 or Kim Ollish at (606) 365-4768. They will deliver locally. All proceeds benefit auxiliary projects.

Healthy Holiday Habits Program

A Healthy Holiday Habits Program will be held every Monday at 1 p.m., through December  18 at the Lincoln County Extension Office, 104 Metker Trail. Discussion: Avoid gaining those unwanted holiday pounds. Fun group classes focusing on healthy eating, budgeting, exercise and more. You’ll get to sample free, tasty recipes and receive a free kitchen tool every week. For more info, call our office at (606) 365-2447.

Rec League basketall registration

6th-8th Grade Rec League Basketball registration will continue through Nov 27. Co-ed league for anyone in 6th-8th grades. Cost is $45. Games are played at Lincoln County Community Center (formerly Kings Mt. Elementary). You can register by going to lincolncountyparks.org or in the park office Monday-Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. (Closed on Nov 10, 23, 24, and weekends).

LC Historical Society Christmas dinner

The Lincoln County Historical Society will hold its Christmas dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stanford Ballroom Facility (above Bluebird on Main Street). Guest speaker will be Eric Brooks, curator/site manager of Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate in Lexington. A presentation of “Objects of Greatest Admiration, a History of Henry Clay in 25 Objects”. The dinner will be catered in buffet style. 60th Anniversary Raintree County – Thursday, Nov. 30. Movie showing at 2 p.m (Kernen will be on hand for the first hour to point out local scenes). Guest speaker, Elizabeth Kernen will be at the library at 6 p.m. She will speak on her experiences in the filming of Raintree County as Elizabeth Taylor’s double. Did you have a part, meet any of the actors and have a special memory about the movie.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class/Strong Women Program: Presented by the Lincoln County Health Dept. is held Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 at the library. We will focus on flexibility and strength training exercises.

First Wednesdays Art Works: Every first Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. – learn new art techniques. Registration is required. December 6: Photo Christmas Ornaments.
