The Lincoln County Middle School boys basketball teams sustained their first losses of the season this past week, but the Eagles still managed to notch more wins than losses as they went 6-3 against East Jessamine, Lexington Catholic and Anderson County.

The sixth-grade Eagles suffered Lincoln’s very first loss, falling 42-35 to Anderson County in their Salt River Conference opener. Both the sixth- and eighth-grade teams bowed to host Lexington Catholic Saturday, with the sixth-grade nosed out 38-37 and the eighth-grade, 44-32. 

All three Lincoln teams capped off the week with a win as the Eagles swept host East Jessamine 3-0 Monday.

6th Grade
LC 51, East 32
Seth Horton and Sawyer Horton combined for 33 points in the Lincoln sixth-grade’s 51-32 win over host East Jessamine Monday.

Seth paced Lincoln with 21 points and Sawyer added 12 points with six rebounds and four steals.

Lincoln was up 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but it was the second period where the Eagles distanced themselves from East, outscoring their hosts 22-2 to post a 35-11 halftime lead.

The Eagles took a 49-22 lead into the fourth quarter, the only period where East outscored Lincoln, 10-2.

Jacob Moore had eight points in the win, Connor Davis had four, Elan Lane had two points and five assists, and Jackson Withrow and Breydon Hatter each had two points.

7th Grade
LC 59, East 33
Lincoln had little trouble disposing of East Jessamine in the seventh-grade game, using consistent double-digit scoring to cruise 59-33.

The Eagles jumped on East 15-2 in the first quarter and used a 13-8 second-quarter run to go into the half up 28-10. Lincoln had its high-point effort in the third quarter, outscoring East 19-8 to cushion its lead to 47-18 heading into the fourth quarter.

Layne Lark and Colton Ralston put up double figures for Lincoln, with Lark scoring 14 points and Ralston getting 11.

Tramane Alcorn contributed eight points and four steals, Zack Moore had seven points, Bo Wallin, five, Jansen McAninch got four points, five rebounds and four assists, Jackson Sims and Jalen Smith each had three points and Connor Davis and Sawyer Horton had two points apiece. Trevor Miracle had four assists.

8th Grade
LC 55, East 40
Cruise Wilson and Lee Amon combined for 33 points, six assists and four steals in the eighth-grade Eagles’ 55-40 romp over East Jessamine.

Wilson led Lincoln with 21 points, three assists and four steals while Amon had 12 points and three assists.

Lincoln eased on top 15-9 in the first quarter and followed with a 15-7 run in the second period to make it 30-16 at the break. The Eagles then used a 21-15 scoring edge to extend their lead to 51-31 at the end of the third period. 

Colin Green had nine points, six rebounds and four steals, Skyler Quinn and Tramane Alcorn had four points each, Lawson Hon had three and Ryan York had two.

Lincoln at Lex. Catholic

6th Grade
LexCath 38, LC 37
The Lincoln sixth-grade team led at the end of the first three quarterstops Saturday night, but the advantage fell to Lexington Catholic at the final horn, as the hosts edged the Eagles 38-37. 

Lincoln was on top 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and, despite being outscored 10-8 in the second period and 11-8 in the third, held to a 21-16 lead at the break and a 29-27 lead going into the fourth.

LexCath would outscore Lincoln in each of the last three quarters, closing out the game with an 11-8 scoring edge. 

Sawyer Horton paced Lincoln with 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Seth Horton scored eight points, Elan Lane had five points and four steals, Connor Davis had four points, three assists and six steals, Jackson Withrow had three points and Blade Nuckols had two.

7th Grade
LC 44, LexCath 29
The seventh-grade Eagles used a 17-2 third-quarter run to turn a close game into a 44-29 rout.

Lincoln edged LexCath 10-9 in both the first and second quarters to hold a 20-18 edge at the half. The Eagles then blew the game open with the 17-2 run, taking a 37-20 lead into the final frame. 

Layne Lark and Tramane Alcorn combined for 27 points in the win, with Lark in front with 14 points and Alcorn right behind him with 13 points and five steals. 

Zack Moore added nine points, nine rebounds and five assists, Jansen McAninch had five points, Trevor Miracle had two and Colton Ralston had one.

8th Grade
LexCath 44, LC 32
Lexington Catholic used a 25-13 scoring run over the second and third quarters Saturday to hand the Lincoln eighth-grade its first loss of the season, 44-32.

Lincoln trailed 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and, after a 12-5 run by LexCath, was looking at a 24-16 halftime deficit. LexCath outscored Lincoln once again in the third, 13-8, to take a 37-24 lead into the final period.

The Eagles did outscore LexCath in the fourth, but the 8-7 edge was not enough to overcome the early deficit. 

Cruise Wilson led Lincoln in the win with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lee Amon followed close behind with nine points and seven rebounds, Tramane Alcorn added five points, Skyler Quinn had three points, Clayton Davis had two points and eight steals and Colin Green had two points.

Anderson Co. at Lincoln

6th Grade
Anderson 42, LC 35
The Lincoln County sixth-grade Eagles suffered their first loss of the season in their Salt River Conference opener, falling 42-35 to visiting Anderson County.

Anderson had built a double-digit halftime lead, opening on a 15-7 run and outpointing Lincoln 14-9 in the second quarter for a 29-16 advantage at the break.

Lincoln chipped away at the 13-point deficit in the third quarter, outscoring Anderson 13-2 to get within 31-29, but the visitors closed on an 11-6 run to secure the win.

Sawyer Horton led Lincoln with 14 points and seven rebounds. Blade Nuckols and Seth Horton both finished with six points and three steals, Elan Lane scored four points, Jackson Withrow had three and Connor Davis had two points and four assists. 

7th Grade
LC 53, Anderson 20
Lincoln established itself as the dominant team early in the seventh-grade game, exploding to a 20-4 start and never looking back in a 53-20 drubbing of Anderson County in the Salt River opener.

The Eagles outscored Anderson 13-4 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 33-8 at the half. Lincoln went on to outscore Anderson 20-12 in the second half to earn the lopsided win.

Tramane Alcorn and Colton Ralston both put up double-digit scoring to lead Lincoln to victory, with Alcorn leading the way with 12 points and Ralston with 11. Ralston also had four assists.

Trevor Miracle and Bo Wallin both had seven points, Layne Lark scored six points, Jalen Smith had four, Zack Moore finished with two points and six rebounds, Jansen McAninch had two points and four steals and Brian Gray had two points.

8th Grade
LC 50, Anderson 41
Cruise Wilson scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had five assists and Lee Amon followed with 11 points to lead the Lincoln eighth-grade Eagles to their first Salt River Conference win, a 50-41 victory over Anderson County.

Lincoln had to fend off a strong rally effort to earn the win. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter only to have Anderson double-up on them in the second quarter, 12-6, to pull within 22-21 at the half. Anderson then edged Lincoln 11-10 in the third to deadlock the game at 32-all. However, the Eagles’ offense would soar in the final frame, outscoring Anderson 18-9 to claim the win.  

Skyler Quinn finished with nine points for the Eagles, Tramane Alcorn had six points, Clayton Davis had three points and five steals and Colin Green had three points.
