What does it mean to be a retired teacher?  If people were polled individually, the answers would be as varied as people’s interests.  Kentucky Retired Teachers Association (KRTA) was established in 1937 and is composed of 30,800+ members.  It has declared October 15-21 as the 6th annual Kentucky Retired Teachers Week.

Retired teachers give back to their community.  They contribute thousands of dollars in volunteer service to their schools, communities, and civic and religious groups.  Last year statewide 940,169 volunteer hours amounting to $19.1 million were donated.

Lincoln County Retired Teachers were a part of the amount listed above.  In addition, they donated 300 cans of food to Fort Logan Ministries, bags of school supplies to school resource centers, and 117 items for the backpack program.

Retired teachers continue to render valuable services in diverse leadership roles in their communities.  They represent a tremendous pool of experience and training and remain dedicated to the betterment of society.  These individuals provide dedicated and dependable support to the leaders of our communities, state, and nation.

As you meet retired teachers throughout the week, recognize their efforts by giving them a thank you.
