STANFORD — The Lincoln County High School girls’ soccer team lost a 6-2 decision to visiting South Laurel Monday.
Lincoln (0-4) never led in the game, with South Laurel (2-1) putting up three goals before the Lady Patriots could break on the scoreboard.
South Laurel, which just edged Lincoln 17-16 in shots on goal, had five different players scoring in the game.
Emily Royster got South Laurel on the scoreboard midway through the first half. Jasmine Callahan rocketed in a high shot to the back left corner with 10:05 on the clock to make it 2-0, South, at the half.
It took just over three minutes into the second half for Victoria Salazar to score what would be the winning goal on a cross kick.
Lincoln posted its first goal of the game less than a minute after Salazar’s goal. Raelyn Amon, who had both of the Lady Patriots’ goals, scored on a short pooch kick in front of goal to make it 3-1 with 35:51 still to play.
Katie Vance, who had two of the Lady Cardinals’ goals, scored the first of her two goals at the 31:55 mark of the second half to edge South back on top by three goals, 4-1.
Amon got back the goal when she scored with a back kick into the net for a 4-2 ballgame with 24:49 to play. However, that would be all the scoring Lincoln would see.
Corinne Fojtek scored for South Laurel just seconds after the Amon goal, then Vance notched her second goal with 21:26 showing for the 6-2 final.
Lincoln goalkeeper Dallis Brown had seven saves in the game and South Laurel’s Hailey Howard had five saves.
