STANFORD – Schools were closed in Lincoln County last Friday after torrential rain flooded the area.

After three-to-seven inches of rain fell between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday morning, several roads were left flooded.

According to Emergency Management Director Don Gilliam, the following roads were flooded: Gilbert’s Creek Road; Peyton Well Road; Frog Branch Road; Goshen Road; Goshen Church Road; Green River Road; Rowland Cutoff; South 3rd Street; Blue Lick Road; and Neal’s Creek Road.

The Lincoln County Road Department removed debris and all roads were reopened later Friday, aside from one.

Goshen Church Road, which suffered damage at a bridge, was closed for a while longer and repairs were expected to be concluded later Friday.

“The Lincoln County School District will be cancelled today, Friday, August 18, 2017, due to high water in some parts of the county,” a statement on the district’s Facebook page said.
