CRAB ORCHARD – Keith Caudill has resigned as city commissioner, according to Crab Orchard Mayor Billy Shelton.

Shelton said the city commission received Caudill’s formal resignation earlier this month.

“He works in Bowling Green and he just couldn’t, it was hard to do the job and be in Bowling Green and come back on Thursdays,” Shelton said. “It’s just a long drive for him and stuff, hard to do that.”

Caudill was elected in November of 2016 for a two-year term on the Crab Orchard City Commission.

In response to The Interior Journal’s request for candidate responses, Caudill said the city needed new ideas and a new vision in order to grow.

“I would like to review different options to generate more revenue for the city,” Caudill said. “If more revenue were to be generated, we could expand the police department, repair the sewer system and make repairs to streets and roads. Small repairs are needed.”

Shelton said the commissioners had to wait 30 days after accepting Caudill’s resignation before moving forward to replace him.

“I can’t appoint it. We’re a commission so it has to be voted on,” he added.

There is about a year-and-a-half left of Caudill’s term, Shelton said.

A special-called meeting has been scheduled for Aug. 28 to appoint a new commissioner to fill Caudill’s vacancy.

The commission held a work-session meeting last Thursday, Aug. 17 and discussed potential candidates for Caudill’s replacement.

Shelton said he wasn’t sure how easily the commission will agree on a new person.
