Boneyville 200 Drag Riders to hold Christmas in June event

The Boneyville 200 Drag Riders would like you to participate in Christmas in June on Saturday, June 10 at the Boneyville Drag Track, 1758 Boneyville Rd., Stanford. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be riding and activities to follow. The ride is $15 per rider and $5 per passenger. For non-riders it is $5. Meal and drink is included. The money will go for donations to Fort Logan FOP Chapter to sponsor the “Shop With A Cop” Christmas program. Crab Orchard 4th of July Celebration
The Crab Orchard 4th of July Celebration will be held Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1. For more information contact Crab Orchard City Hall (606) 355-2319. Activities for the celebration include: Friday: Vendor Booths starting at 4 p.m.; Miss Crab Orchard Pageants- 7 to 9 p.m. – $15 entry fee; Car Cruise – 6 to 9 p.m.; Street Dance – 9 p.m-12 a.m. with DJ Greg. Saturday: County Ham Breakfast 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. – $6 fee for breakfast; Vendor Booths starting at 8 a.m.; Car Show – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., location at Crab Orchard Auto Parts; Parade – 1 p.m. line up at school starting at 11 a.m.; Watermelon Crawl- 2:30 p.m. – Veterans Park; Golf Cart Drag Race 3 p.m.; Water Balloon Toss- 3 p.m.; Golf Cart Back Seat Driver- 3:30 p.m.; Silver Creek Band- 4 to 6 p.m.; Moron Brothers- 6 to 8 p.m.; Josh Logan- 8 to 10 p.m.; Fireworks- 10 p.m.

 

Highland Elementary kindergarten registration
Highland Elementary will hold registration for Kindergarten students for the 2017-2018 school year on July 13, at the school from 5 to 7 p.m. Students enrolled in Lincoln County for 2016-2017 do not need to re-enroll. Please call the school at (606) 365-2768 if you have questions. No appointment needed for this evening registration. Expect to spend about 20-30 minutes at the school to complete the process. Please bring the following with you to complete the registration: 1) The student; 2) Student’s birth certificate; 3) Student’s social security card; 4) Immunization records; 5) School physical, including dental screening; 6) Vision exam records

 

LC Retired Teachers to meet
Lincoln County Retired Teachers will meet Tuesday, June 20 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln County Senior Citizen Center. We will share a potluck of delicious food and fellowship. Then we will participate in an Act of Remembrance service for educators of Lincoln County who have passed during the 2016-2017 school year. Please come and join us for this special time. AARP Driver Safety Program
Individuals who are age 55 or older are invited to participate in an AARP Driver Safety Program sponsored by McDowell Wellness Center. The course is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $15 for AARP members (bring AARP card to class) or $20 for non-AARP members. Refreshments will be provided. This course is sanctioned by the AARP. Individuals who complete the course may be eligible for a five-year discount on their automobile insurance. You do not have to be a member of AARP or McDowell Wellness Center to participate. The class is limited to 25 participants. To enroll, or for more information, please call (859) 936-9355.

 

Revolutionary War in a Trunk
Revolutionary War in a Trunk will be held at Lincoln County Public Library on Monday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public. Call (606) 365-7513 to register. This hands-on, interactive program is fun for all ages! Geoff Baggett brings an old wooden trunk full of daily necessities and military items from the Revolutionary War period. These items include camp tools and equipment, clothing, and other everyday necessities. This trunk full of 18th century “treasures” helps bring to life the reality of living on the Virginia and Kentucky frontier in the 1770s.

 

2017 Rabies Clinic
The 2017 Lincoln County Rabies Vaccination Clinic will be held on the following dates: Monday, June 26 – 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Waynesburg Elementary School; Wednesday, June 28 – 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Crab Orchard Elementary School; Friday, June 30 – 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Hustonville Elementary School; and Friday, June 30 – 6:30 to to 8 p.m. (evening clinic) at Lincoln County High School. Rabies vaccination fees are $5. Sponsored by Lincoln County Health Department, Dr. Jonathan Alford and Dr. Devin Carlton.

 
Blood drive to be held
The need for blood doesn’t take a vacation. Accidents, surgeries, cancer therapies and disease treatments continue year round. To help ensure a strong summer blood supply, Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is inviting everyone to roll up their sleeves and be a summer lifesaver. The blood drive is scheduled for Thursday, June 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the fellowship room at Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main Street. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you would like to make an appointment you may call 800-775-2522 ext. 3758. Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Donors must also show a photo I.D. with first and last name, like a state-issued driver’s license. As a thank you, everyone 18 years and older who registers to give blood will be automatically entered to win a 2017 Toyota Highland (giveaway will run from June 1-Sept. 8).

 

Cow Bell Days begins in June
The second annual Cow Bell Days will take place in downtown Stanford Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17. This family friendly event will kickoff with a car cruise on Friday night, art and craft vendors, food, and music. The festivities will continue on Saturday with a country breakfast, farmers market, parade, and ice cream eating contest. You can learn more at www.facebook.com/CowBellDays. Cow Bell Days Parade registration open
The Cow Bell Days parade is open to all businesses, clubs, churches, civic groups and individuals interested in creating a float, carrying banners, handing out candy or driving their classic car, sporty convertible, decorated golf cart or tractor down Main Street. It is also a great way to create awareness for your business or group, and participate in a fun downtown event at the same time. From Compassion to Action; Volunteer for SHIP
Do you hear your family, friends or neighbors say they can’t afford their Medicare, medication or medical bills? Do you feel the need to help or wish you knew who could? Legal Aid of the Bluegrass’s SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Assistance) Program is the answer. SHIP has knowledgeable, caring staff and volunteers that can train you to resolve Medicare issues for the elderly and vulnerable in your community. Lions Club monthly meetings
The Lions Club meets on the first and third Mondays every month at the Lincoln County Public Library. The public is encouraged to attend and are invited to join the Lions Club! Cedar Creek Sportsman Club meetings

Square Dance lessons

Zentangle 101: Third Thursday of every month (through June 2017), 10 a.m. to noon. A different Zentangle project will be instructed step by step. Beginners and experts are welcome to attend. The Zentangle Method is an easy to learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Call the library to register (365-7513).
Happy Scrappers: Crafting Club: Third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library. Bring your craft projects and supplies and spend the day working on your unfinished projects, get new ideas or learn a new skill.
Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class/Strong Women Program: Presented by the Lincoln County Health Dept. is held Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 at the Lincoln County Public Library. We will focus on flexibility and strength training exercises. New participants are always welcome.
