STANFORD — John Anderson and Ashlyn Liddle reigned as champions in the annual Memorial Day Marching Ants 5K Run/Walk.
One hundred thirty-six other runners took to the streets of downtown Stanford with Anderson and Liddle Monday morning not just to make strides in their own personal health but also to help raise diabetes awareness.
The race was hosted by the Stanford Lion’s Club and was part of the Wilderness Trace Run/Walk/Bike Series. Proceeds from the race will be given to local diabetes charities and to the Lion’s Clubs local projects. The offices of Dr. Bates, Miller & Sims were a major race sponsor.
Anderson was the overall and top male winner, covering the 3.1-mile distance in a time of 19:35 and Liddle repeated as the women’s overall winner with a time of 20:07, which was the third best time in the race. 
Jarod Hodges finished right between Anderson and Liddle, claiming the runner-up spot in the race in 19:50.
Liddle was the only female runner in the top 10. Aaron Hogue placed fourth overall in 20:08, Brody Blanton and Jacob Liddle tied for fifth with a time of 21:11, Chaz Garcia was seventh in 21:37, Tim Godbey and Daniel Ralston tied for eighth place with a time of 21:45 and Barry Mercer finished 10th overall in 21:47.
Godbey’s time of 21:45 was good enough to earn him the Masters Male Champion medal. The Masters division is open to runners 40 years of age and older. Kimberly Hamilton took home the Masters Female Champion medal with her time of 25:18.
