The postseason is here!
A season that began officially back on Feb. 15 when spring sports teams could start holding practices has reached the beginning of the conclusion, with all four teams in the 45th District playing opening games Monday in the 2017 postseason tournaments.
While there are no guarantees in the tournaments, we do know that at least four of the eight 45th District teams from Boyle County, Danville, Garrard County and Lincoln County will have a minimum of two more games after Monday and that four will be finished for the season.
The 45th District Softball Tournament will be held at Lincoln County High School Monday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 24, and Danville is serving as host of the 45th District Baseball Tournament, also on Monday and Wednesday.
In softball, top-seeded Garrard County (22-8, 3-0 district) faces four-seed Danville (3-18, 0-3) in Monday’s first game at 5:30 p.m. Two-seed Lincoln County (14-9, 2-1) and three-seed Boyle County (20-13, 1-2) will take the diamond at approximately 6:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the first game.
Boyle, which dropped games to Lincoln and Garrard in the regular season, is the girls defending district champion.
The baseball opening doubleheader at Danville Monday will feature defending champ and top-seeded Boyle County (21-9, 5-1 district) against four-seeded Garrard County (7-17, 0-6) at 5:30 p.m. Two-seed Danville (17-13, 5-1) and three-seed Lincoln (12-17, 2-4) will face off in the second game, which will start 30 minutes after the first game.
Monday’s winners in the softball tourney will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the district championship game, while the first-round baseball winners will play at 6 p.m. on the same night in the district final.
