STANFORD — The Lincoln County Lady Patriot and Patriot tennis teams got their first match sweep of the season, with 8-1 wins over the visiting Madison Southern girls and boys.
Both of Lincoln’s losses came at the one seed, with Lady Patriot Kaycie Bandura bowing to the Lady Eagles’ top singles player Jordan Centers 6-3 and the Pats’ top doubles team of Roland Taylor and Ryan Montgomery falling 6-1 to Southern’s Dawson Hellard and Caleb Miller.
But it was win, win, win the rest of the match as Lincoln dominated Southern.
Bandura would open the match with a win as she and doubles partner Savanna Smith blanked Southern’s Abby Johnson and Grace Yates 6-0 at one. Lincoln’s Raelyn Amon and Kaitlynn Wilks were challenged by Autumn Smith and Kristen Cordell at two before pulling out a 7-5 win and Adie Hogue and Chandler Otto were victorious at three, topping Mara Negron and Ashtyn Morton 6-1.
In singles action, Smith, Amon, Wilks, Logan Godbey and Abby Hale all picked up wins.
Smith won 6-2 at two over Cassidy Newby, Amon beat Ally Bowling 6-1 at three, Wilks topped Maxine Preusche 6-4 at four, Godbey outlasted Miranda Osborn 8-6 at five and Hale defeated Lizzie Westerfield 6-2 at six.
The Patriots swept singles play in their 8-1 win, with Taylor, Montgomery, Kade Bandura, Carter Story, Jacob Baird and Lee Amon all courting victory.
Taylor defeated Hellard 6-0 at one, Montgomery beat out Edoarao Ederle 6-4 at two, Bandura also won 6-4, topping Giacomo Gashai at three, Story held off Zack Oaks 7-5 at four, Baird ripped Robert Buckman 6-0 at five and Amon won 6-1 over Ty Allen.
Kade Bandura and Story teamed up for a win in doubles play, defeating Ben Gilliam and Devin Parker 6-1 at the two seed. Baird and Amon also collected a 6-1 doubles victory, winning against Dez Goodloe and Adam Trickler at three.
Lincoln coach Allen Lewis commended Carter Story and Logan Godbey for their hard-fought singles victories.
“Carter Story played a very strong match, in singles he was up 4-0, he lost five straight games, and then won the last two. He showed a lot of toughness in coming back,” Lewis said. “Logan Godbey also shows a lot of will to win. Her match was back and forth the whole night, but she grinded it out and got the win.”
