STANFORD — The McCreary Central boys’ tennis team proved no match for Lincoln County Monday afternoon, as the host Patriots rolled to an 8-1 victory.
Lincoln swept the doubles competition and came oh-so-close to doing the same in singles play with freshman Kade Bandura battling Central’s McKinley Chitwood in an intense match before falling 8-6.
“The boys are improving every match,” Lincoln coach Allen Lewis said. “We had a lot of matches that were close, but we were able to win almost every one of them. That’s a sign of growth. Story and Bandura are continuing to play really well.”
Bandura would not come away from the match empty-handed. Lincoln got the winning going in doubles play and Bandura and doubles partner Carter Story were part of that winning start. Bandura got one back from Chitwood in the two-seeded doubles match as he and Story defeated Chitwood and G. Perry 8-5.
Lincoln’s top-seeded senior duo of Roland Taylor and Ryan Montgomery also courted a doubles win against McCreary, beating Noah Chitwood and Kobe Perry 8-3 at one. The Patriots Jacob Baird and Lee Amon rounded out Lincoln’s run of doubles “W’s” by blanking McCreary’s Jordan Perry and Devin Vanover 8-0 at three.
Taylor, Montgomery, Baird and Amon all went 2-0 in the McCreary match, following up their doubles wins with singles victories.
Taylor reigned at the top seed, beating Noah Chitwood 8-3, Montgomery edged out Kobe Perry 8-6 at two, Baird had a shutout in singles as well, rolling 8-0 over Jordan Perry at four and Amon won 8-3 over Vanover at five.
The Lady Patriot tennis team did not meet with the same success as the Patriots, bowing 5-4 to the visiting Lady Raiders, and that included two singles match forfeits by McCreary and one doubles match forfeit.
Alyea Towle, playing at the three seed, notched the Lady Patriots’ lone contested match win. She defeated McCreary’s Jodi Anderson 8-5.
Lincoln’s girls had four matches where they picked up multiple games before losing to McCreary.
The Lady Pats’ No. 1 doubles team of Kaycie Bandura and Savanna Smith challenged McCreary’s Franceira Reverdito and Kortney Brock to a tough match but came up short in an 8-5 loss. Raelyn Amon and Logan Godbey each won three games in their singles matches, as Amon fell 8-3 to Reverdito at one and Godbey went down 8-3 at four to Kelsi Hammons.
“On the girls side, we had a lot of close matches, and we came up short,” Lewis said. “That’s the difference experience makes. They boys were able to close out those matches, and our girls are so young, we weren’t able to close out the matches.
