McKinney Elementary students got a surprise visit from The Cat in the Hat during the school’s literacy night. During the event, students and parents were invited to celebrate the love of reading. Both students and parents enjoyed visiting various rotations throughout the night and learned about the upcoming Read-A-Thon at McKinney Elementary. Amanda Wheeler, the children’s librarian from the Lincoln County Public Library, shared information about the summer reading program and the current Explore-Tech science exhibit at the library. Gena Carmicle, McKinney Elementary’s librarian, shared online reading resources with parents and students. Students also enjoyed listening to the story, What Pet Should I Get and enjoyed writing and drawing about their dream pet. After listening to the story, The Lorax, students decorated their very own flower pots and planted seeds. The night ended with a visit from The Cat in the Hat along with truffula cupcakes and Lorax punch.
