Relay for Life Annual
Race for the Cure
Lincoln County Relay for Life will be having its 10th Annual Race for a Cure. This event will be a 5K Race/3K Walk on Saturday, April 1. Summer School Feeding program
The Lincoln County Board of Education is sponsoring the “Summer Feeding Program” in Lincoln County. Each summer, students are at risk of going hungry when the school year ends and school meals are no longer available. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) can help fill the gap for low-income children. Faith-based, community and private non-profit organizations can make a difference in the lives of hungry children by serving FREE meals with the Summer Feeding Program. This program provides a free opportunity to add an additional facet to your Vacation Bible Schools. If your church or organization is involved in any summer youth programs from June 5-August 2, we encourage you to participate. (We will not be able to provide meals on July 4). Through the SFP, we can provide nutritional FREE meals for any child 18 years and younger. Meals may be picked up at Fort Logan High Lunchroom. We will conduct a required training on May 27, starting at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the board room at the Lincoln County Board of Education. One person who is in charge of the meals will need to attend the training. Please contact Cathy Pleasants at (606) 365-5778 or Cathy.Pleasants@lincoln.kyschools.us

City of Crab Orchard
Easter Egg Hunt
The City of Crab Orchard will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m. This will be for children ages 10 and under. The hunts will be located at The city’s Veterans Park, the City Park and Donnie Brummett’s home located on the corner of Elm Street and Main Street. City of Stanford Spring Cleanup
City of Stanford 2017 Spring Cleanup will be held April 17 through April 28. Household items and tree limbs are to be placed by the curb for pickup. Tree limbs are to be no longer than 6 feet in length and tied into bundles. No trees which have been cut down will be picked up. Other items excluded from pickup are tires, batteries, paint and chemicals. For any questions, please call Stanford City Hall at (606) 365-4500.

Stanford Litter Cleanup
A Stanford litter cleanup will be held Friday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers can sign up in front of the PVA/Chamber of Commerce office. Trash bags and gloves will be given to volunteers.

Blood drive to be held
For many, springtime in Kentucky means Keeneland, Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. Kentucky Blood Center is celebrating the season with a special Win, Place and Show You Care T-Shirt for blood donors. Area donors are invited to give so others may live at the Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) blood drive being held Monday, April 3 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Crab Orchard Elementary School, 137 Lancaster Street. No appointments are necessary. Blood donors must be 17-years (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. 

Wills and Distribution Lists class
A Wills and Distribution Lists class will be held Tuesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office. Guest presenter will be Paul Long, Attorney. Topics to be covered: Wills, Power of Attorney, Distribution Lists and Living Will.  The class is free, but participants are asked to call (606) 365-2447 by noon on April 3 to reserve a seat. A meal will be prepared by the Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association for all attending. 

LC Health Department to hold monthly diabetes meeting
The Lincoln County Diabetes Support Group will meet Thursday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln County Health Department. The topic for April is “Diabetes Complications”. Anyone is welcome to attend. Farmer’s Market
In order to participate in the WIC  and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs and accept those food instruments during the upcoming Lincoln County Farmers Market Season, you must participate in a required training which will be Monday, April 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office located at 104 Metker Trail in Stanford.  If you have participated in this program in prior years and have a stamp and ink pad, please bring it with you. Relatives As Parents Group to meet
RAP – Relatives As Parents Group will meet Tuesday, March 28 at 5 p.m. at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 100 John St., Stanford. This meeting is for anyone raising children other than their own. The goal of RAP is: Support offering a social network for grandparents/relatives raising children under 18; referrals and access to appropriate community based services and resources; opportunities to learn and provide support to and from families in the same situation; and tips for coping with changing family dynamics 

Alzheimer’s Disease Series
 We will be offering a series of educational programs related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Dates and topics will be:  April 4 – 10 a.m. – The Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease/Know the 10 Signs; April 11 – 10 a.m.  – Brain Tour; April 18 – 10 a.m. – Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease: Learn what legal and financial issues to consider and how to put plans in place. This program will be taught by Jay McShurley & Morrow Law Office. May 9 – 10 a.m. – Healthy Living for your Brain and Body; May 16 – 10 a.m. – Alzheimer’s Disease Focus Group Meeting. Instructors will be Sarah Rowe, Community Outreach Coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Association, and Rita Stewart, County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, will be coordinating and teaching most of the classes. LC Historical Society to meet
The Lincoln County Historical Society will meet Tuesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. upstairs at the Lincoln County Public Library. Guest speaker will be Marion Cooper with How to Access Oral History Online. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome. Board meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Community Room #2 upstairs.

Fishing event for children
The Lincoln County Safe Community Taskforce and Operation UNITE invite all children to a fishing event Friday, May 5 at Cedar Creek Lake. Registration begins at 5 p.m., fishing begins at 6 p.m.. A hot dog meal will be provided, bring your own fishing pole, or use one provided. Prizes will also be awarded. Follow the signs at Cedar Creek Lake.

Flushing fire hydrants
The City of Stanford Waterworks employees will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the system through Friday, March 31. Customers may experience discoloration in the water, and should refrain from washing clothes at this time. Customers can turn on their faucets to clear up any discolored water.

Free Yoga Class
Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center is offering a free Yoga class for seniors 60 and older. The class will be held on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m.  at the LC Senior Citizens Center, 100 Senior Way, beginning March 3 and will run for eight weeks. For registration call (606) 365-9016.

The Chamber of Commerce and Operation UNITE will be holding a free 1 hour suicide prevention training on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library. Guest speaker is Judge Debra Hembree Lambert, Ky. Court of Appeals – Certified QPR Trainer. The training is open to anyone interested especially medical professionals, ministers, counselors, teachers, police and other first responders. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class/Strong Women Program: Presented by the Lincoln County Health Dept. is held Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 at the Lincoln County Public Library. (No class on March 27) We will focus on flexibility and strength training exercises. New participants are always welcome. 
Researching the Draper Manuscripts: Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. – Join Peggy Denham at the Lincoln County Public Library as she discusses the life of Lyman Draper and the historical treasures that can be found in the documents he collected. The only known map of Logan’s Fort is part of the Draper Manuscripts. Peggy will share tips to simplify the manuscripts use as a historical and genealogical research tool. Call (606) 365-7513 to register.
Kentucky Chautauqua: Simon Kenton, Frontiersman 1755-1836 will be at Lincoln County Public Library on Saturday, May 13 at 1 p.m. – One of Kentucky’s greatest frontiersman will step out of Daniel Boone’s shadow and live again when Kentucky Chautauqua presents Mel Hankla in a compelling living history portrayal of Simon Kenton (1755-1836).  Simon Kenton, certain he had killed another boy in a fight over a girl, fled west from Virginia at the age of 16.  He was wrong, but the incidentlaunched him on a life of high adventure.  Call (606) 365-7513 to register.
