Lincoln County’s Emma King was named to The Advocate-Messenger Girls All-Area Team for 2017.
The All-Area team is comprised of players voted on by area coaches and staff members of The Advocate-Messenger, with the top five vote getters placed on the first team. The next five players are placed on the second team, and the remainder on the honorable mention list.
King, a sophomore, averaged 17.9 points per game this past season, finishing with a total of 574 points. She scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 13 in a win over Boyle County. She knocked down 26 points in the 69-61 victory. King scored 171 points of her 574 total points at the foul line, connecting on 82 percent of her shot attempts (140-for-171).
King also averaged 4.5 rebounds a game.
King’s teammate Kaitlynn Wilks topped the list of the All-Area Second Team. Wilks, also a sophomore, finished second behind King in scoring this past season, averaging 13.6 points per game. Wilks was at the top of the list when it came her work on the glass, grabbing a team-high 274 rebounds for an average of 8.6 per game.
The Player of the Year honor for the All-Area Team goes to the player earning the highest point total in voting, and that honor went to Emmie Harris of Boyle County.
Harris, who was also named the KABC 12th Region Player of the Year, ended her high school career, which spanned six seasons, with her best scoring clip, 26.3 points per game, the best of her career.
