Community Prayer Meeting to target drug problem

A community prayer meeting will be held on April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Stanford city parking garage. We are asking all of the community to join us. Our greatest hope is that all our local churches will come together collectively and unite in covering our region in prayer, targeting the drug problem that is affecting everyone in some way. We understand this is a lot to ask of all our local church leaders, pastors, along with members to of course come out from the walls of your church on this particular Wednesday evening and come together with all denominations set aside as we humble ourselves and call upon the Lord and cry out to him for a lost generation. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. We have high expectations and believe God will move in a mighty way.

Flushing fire hydrants – March 27-31

The City of Stanford Waterworks employees will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the system starting Monday, March 27 beginning at 6 a.m. through 5 p.m. Flushing will continue through Friday, March 31. Customers may experience discoloration in the water, and should refrain from washing clothes at this time. Customers can turn on their faucets to clear up any discolored water.

Healing Touch Therapy hosting classes

Healing Touch Therapy will be hosting three free Introduction to Essential Classes at 214 Main Street, Crab Orchard. The classes will give an overview of essential oils and how to use them to help your body. Classes will last about an hour and will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 21 at 4 p.m. Call (606) 669-3157 to reserve your spot. International Night set for March 21 

Please join us for an educational program about England during International Night set for Tuesday, March 21 starting at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office. Experience some foods commonly eaten there and learn about the customs and lifestyles of people living in England. The menu will consist of Shepherd’s Pie or Proper English Cottage Pie, Mushy Peas, Sliced Tomatoes, Melting Biscuits, Victoria Sponge Cake, Trifle, Black or Green Tea and Water. Cost will be $5 per person to participate. Proceeds from the International Event will benefit the KEHA International Sewing Project. There will also be a silent auction; so, please plan to bid on those items that will be donated. If you would like to donate for the silent auction, please let Betty McReaken know. The International Event is open to the general public; so, ask your family and friends to attend. This will be a great opportunity to learn about a new place and taste some new foods.  

Upcoming blood drive

Blood transfusions are needed by many Kentuckians. Cancer patients often require blood transfusions to help rebuild their blood supply during cancer treatments. Trauma patients need blood immediately to get them stable. These Kentucky patients depend on the generosity of blood donors to support them on their road to recovery. Area donors are invited to give so others may live at the upcoming Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) blood drive scheduled for Thursday, March 16 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the fellowship room at the Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main Street, Stanford. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a short-sleeve gray T-shirt. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can be made by calling 800-775-2522, ext. 3758. Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements.

Basket Workshop

Youth Baseball/Girls Softball/Wee Ball/T-ball Registration

2017 Youth Baseball/Girls Softball/Wee Ball/T-ball Registration is March 6-24. You can register online at www.lincolncountyparks.org or in the park office M-F 10AM-4PM. Baseball/Wee Ball/ T-Ball is $65. Girls Softball $60. For ages 4-12.

LC Prom set for April 15

Free Yoga Class

Lincoln County Senior Citizens Center is offering a free Yoga class for seniors 60 and older. The class will be held on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m.  at the LC Senior Citizens Center, 100 Senior Way, beginning March 3 and will run for eight weeks. For registration call (606) 365-9016.

Chamber and Operate Unite

hosting prevention training

The Chamber of Commerce and Operation UNITE will be holding a free 1 hour suicide prevention training on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library. Guest speaker is Judge Debra Hembree Lambert, Ky. Court of Appeals – Certified QPR Trainer. The training is open to anyone interested especially medical professionals, ministers, counselors, teachers, police and other first responders. Each participant will be given a pocket sized reference booklet to keep to assist them if faced with a person in a suicide crisis.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Annual Chamber Banquet Awards, April 11. Nominations will be accepted for Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Healthcare Provider and The Big Apple Award. Lions Club monthly meetings

The Lions Club meets on the first and third Mondays every month at the Lincoln County Public Library. The public is encouraged to attend and are invited to join the Lions Club! The Lions Club is here to serve the community. Zentangle 101: Third Thursday of every month (through June 2017), 10 a.m. to noon. A different Zentangle project will be instructed step by step. Beginners and experts are welcome to attend. Happy Scrappers: Crafting Club: Third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library.  Bring your craft projects and supplies and spend the day working on your unfinished projects, get new ideas or learn a new skill. 

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class/Strong Women Program: Presented by the Lincoln County Health Dept. is held Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 at the Lincoln County Public Library. (No class on March 27) We will focus on flexibility and strength training exercises. New participants are always welcome. 

Researching the Draper Manuscripts: Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. – Join Peggy Denham at the Lincoln County Public Library as she discusses the life of Lyman Draper and the historical treasures that can be found in the documents he collected. The only known map of Logan’s Fort is part of the Draper Manuscripts. Peggy will share tips to simplify the manuscripts use as a historical and genealogical research tool. Call (606) 365-7513 to register.

Kentucky Chautauqua: Simon Kenton, Frontiersman 1755-1836 will be at Lincoln County Public Library on Saturday, May 13 at 1 p.m. – One of Kentucky’s greatest frontiersman will step out of Daniel Boone’s shadow and live again when Kentucky Chautauqua presents Mel Hankla in a compelling living history portrayal of Simon Kenton (1755-1836).  Simon Kenton, certain he had killed another boy in a fight over a girl, fled west from Virginia at the age of 16.  He was wrong, but the incident launched him on a life of high adventure.  This program was funded in part by the Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc.
