MCKINNEY – A man initially found unresponsive by family members became combative with emergency responders and law enforcement as deputies attempted to take him into custody.
Ryan K. Ellis, 27, of Hustonville, was arrested on drug-related charges on March 7 after law enforcement arrived at a residence on Hwy. 698 in the McKinney area at about 7:30 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Mullins.
Mullins said when he arrived Ellis had already regained consciousness.
“We walked in, tried to calm him down, gave him commands to put his hands where we could see them, but he kept putting them in his pockets,” Mullins said. “At this point, we didn’t know whether he had a weapon on him or anything. Several family members were there and he had been trying to fight them as well.”
Ellis continued to act “irate and loud,” Mullins said, and he was placed in handcuffs due to his mental state.
Deputies were able to calm Ellis down enough to search his persons where they allegedly found 12 pills identified as Klonopin, as well as a white substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine.
“He admitted to shooting up when he got out of the shower,” Mullins said. “We found evidence in the bathroom that he had shot up and also he had a hypodermic syringe in his pocket.”
Ellis refused EMS treatment on scene and was transported to the Lincoln County Regional Jail on charges of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.
Mullins said Ellis did not have a prescription for the Klonopin pills.
Special Deputy Colby Reik and Constable Delbert Mitchell, as well as Lincoln County EMS, assisted on scene.
A $1,000 cash bond was set for Ellis but he has since been released from custody, according to jail records.
