Stanford Lions prepare for annual Radio Auction

The Stanford Lions Club is preparing for its annual Radio Auction set for Saturday, April 22 from noon to 8 p.m. Because of the generosity of WPBK-FM allowing the Lions to use their radio station, this will be the seventh year that we will be conducting our auction. There has been a great response from people as far away as Lexington bidding on some of the items.
Auction items are donated from all over our community and across the state and some in Tennessee and West Virginia.
Members of the radio auction committee have been working very hard. They have sent out request letters and will make personal visits to over 300 businesses asking for donations. We want to thank everyone who has donated and continues to donate items for the auction. To make the auction a success, at least 200 items are needed for the eight hours of radio time. Many people send monetary funds that are very much appreciated. During the auction, 10 items are available for bidders to bid on every twenty minutes. Club members answer the phones, do all the announcing, and runners and Lions work the boards.
When auction items are received, they are placed on our Facebook page so they can be viewed. Three days before the auction, items will be put in bidding order so you can schedule what you bid on. The beginning date to start posting the items will be February 15.
Proceeds from past auctions have been used to build the Bill Fox picnic shelter at the Veterans Park, place 15 picnic tables in the shelter, purchase a camera to perform eye screening to detect any eye problem a person may have and then refer them to a eye doctor, award $500 scholarships to Lincoln High school seniors and conduct many other community projects. 100 percent of the proceeds collected from the public must be returned to the public. Our motto is “We Serve”.
