The curtain fell on the Lincoln County Middle School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team’s season Sunday, as the Eagles fell to two-time defending state champion Meece Middle School of Somerset in the second round of the KBA State Tournament.
The Eagles, coached by Eric Ralston, cruised to a 54-34 win over Spencer County in their first pool play game and rolled 51-32 over Danville Bate in the second game. Lincoln advanced through the first round of the 64-team tourney with a 59-48 win over Hopkinsville Middle School only to fall to Meece Middle 62-56 in the round of 32.
Meece Middle went on to make the championship game, but the team could not defend its title as Adams Middle School of Prestonsburg claimed the winners’ trophy.
The members of the eighth-grade Eagle team are: Rodney Alcorn, Lee Amon, Preston Barnes, Blaise Brown, Clayton Davis, Colin Green, Michael Henderson, Lawson Hon, Cade Jenkins, Riley Lark, Baylor Mattingly, Skyler Quinn, Jaxon Smith, Brady Weaver, Cruise Wilson and Bryson Young. 
The team finishes 31-6.
