LCHS places fourth in district Governor‘s Cup

The Lincoln County High School academic team finished in fourth place in the 46th District Governor’s Cup Tournament held at Danville High School.
Host Danville was the overall winner of the Quick Recall competition. Rockcastle County finished in the runner-up spot with Boyle County taking third place.
Lincoln lost 17-32 to Rockcastle in the opening round of the Quick Recall competition, came back to beat Garrard County 21-14 in round two before losing again to Rockcastle in round three. Rockcastle took the rematch 35-10.
Students also competed in written assessments during the district competition. The five areas competed were math, language arts, arts and humanities, science and composition.
Lincoln had three students – Auburn Mattingly, Jeremiah McFarland and Sam Durham – to place in the top five individually; all of those will compete at the regional level Feb. 18 at Pulaski County High School. 
Mattingly, a senior, took first place in the math competition, answering 46 out of 50 questions correctly to claim the top spot.
McFarland, a sophomore, earned a second at district, finishing as runner-up in social studies.
Durham, a junior, also qualified for region in the area of math. He placed fifth overall in the event.
