The Lincoln County Extension Homemakers Association held its annual Holiday Tea Party for Ovarian Cancer Screening Research Project on Friday, Dec. 2. This is one community service to all women that Extension Homemakers across Kentucky have strongly supported for over 40 years. In those 40 years, Kentucky Extension Homemakers donated over one million dollars with over 52,000 thousand women screened.

The key speaker for this event, Gwyneth Pyle, talked about her personal experience working in the Oncology Department. She urged women not to ignore any abnormal symptoms like tight clothes due to bloating, extreme fatigue, bladder pressure and to take action by going to the doctor and getting screened. The key to survival is early detection.

Lincoln County Extension homemaker member, Lucille Hammons, emphasized to the attendees that if you are a paid member to Extension Homemakers you qualify for a free yearly screening at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.
Six clubs highly supported this event and actively participated in the holiday tea. Happy Heart Club had the most members present. Crab Orchard Club and Mountain Crafters Club tied in number of members present followed by Four Corners Club, Lynwood Club and New Kids. Each club decorated their table with decor suitable for the holiday season.

Homemakers also brought their own tea cup and saucer to use. Tea sandwiches, biscuits, cakes, salads, and different type of teas made by the Extension Homemaker were served to those in attendance. Hostesses Esther Bailey and Elizabeth Adams also added something new this year by having a memorial table. Battery operated candles were available for purchase to be lit in memory of loved ones who lost their battle to cancer.

Family and Consumer Science Agent, Rita Stewart, thanked everyone for their hard work and tremendous support for this community project and for being a great leader in Lincoln County.
