Stanford police arrest men in car stolen out of Mercer County

STANFORD – Police arrested two men in a car allegedly stolen out of Mercer County after it was spotted in Stanford by a friend of the owner.
Fadale Zamora, 24, of Danville, and Justin Bowman, 30, of Lexington, were arrested Dec. 1 by Stanford Police Detective Tim Morris after the pair was allegedly spotted on Stanford Road and followed to Walmart where police made the arrest.
According to Morris, Zamora was found behind the wheel of a stolen Crysler 300 with Bowman in the passenger’s seat. The car, owned by Brandon Humphrey, was stolen from his property on New Dixville Road in Harrodsburg Nov. 28 and was reported to police Nov. 29.
Morris said the keys were in the car and it was unlocked at the time it was taken – a habit that was “common knowledge” according to the police detective.
Morris said Zamora had been at a party on Rose Lane and was dropped off near Humphrey’s property where he “got in it and drove off.”
Zamora drove the car for two days, traveling to Lexington, Lancaster, Danville and Harrodsburg. He had been driving around Stanford for most of the day when a friend of the car’s owner got behind him on Stanford Road and followed him to Walmart.
That’s where Police Chief Zach Middleton and Morris cornered the car and removed the two men inside it.
Morris said Bowman had been picked up a previous day and had been riding around with Zamora in the stolen car for about two days.
During the arrest, police discovered a substance suspected to be methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia.
The car was returned to the owner with no apparent damage, Morris said.
Zamora was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more); first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; and operating a vehicle on a suspended or revoked license. He pleaded guilty in Lincoln District Court Monday, according to Morris.
The passenger, Bowman, was charged with receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bowman pleaded not guilty in court Monday, Morris said, and a preliminary hearing is set for next Monday.
