Fort Logan FOP taking referrals for Shop With A Cop Event
The Fort Logan Fraternal Order of Police will be hosting our annual Shop With A Cop Christmas event on Dec. 10 at Walmart in Stanford. We are currently taking referrals for children 14 years and under to participate in the event. Please contact us if you know of a child in need during the holidays that would like to participate in purchasing Christmas gifts with an officer. Lincoln County Schools Local Planning Committee Meeting
The Lincoln County Schools’ Local Planning Committee will conduct a meeting on Monday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m., in the Board Room of the Student Support Center at 305 Danville Avenue. This meeting is an orientation meeting for the committee and is one of a series of meetings to develop a District Facilities Plan for the Lincoln County Schools. The public is invited.

Highland SBDM to hold
special called meeting
The Highland SBDM Council will have a special called meeting on Monday, Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the school. This meeting will take the place of the regularly scheduled meeting for December that was cancelled.

Miss Danville/Miss Heart of Kentucky Scholarship Organization
This Miss Danville/Miss Heart of Kentucky Scholarship Organization is accepting contestants for the 2017 Pageant to be held Jan. 28, 2017 in beautiful Gravely Hall at Danville High School. The Miss Danville/Miss Heart of Kentucky Organization is a part of the Miss Kentucky and Miss America Scholarship Organization. The Miss America Organization is the largest provider of scholarships to young women in the world today.

Christmas Open House in Ottenheim
A Christmas Open House will be held Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ottenheim. Enjoy an afternoon with some hot drinks and cakes in the company of family and friends. Program: Refreshments at 2 p.m.; Heidi and Ryan – Kentucky Mountain Trio at 2:30 p.m. following by Bro. Dan Gutenson with the message. Raffle tickets for a country ham and books, blankets and bells will be available to purchase. Sponsored by the Lincoln County Historical Society. All proceeds will go to the Immanuel Lutheran Building Fund. Everyone welcome.

Santa Claus is coming to town  
The City of Crab Orchard will be hosting its annual Santa Sack program on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Crab Orchard City Hall.  Santa will be arriving in town at 6 p.m. and will be handing out new toys, cookies and hot chocolate to children ages 12 and under. LC Health Department to hold Diabetes Support Group meeting
The Lincoln County Diabetes Support Group will meet Thursday, Dec.1 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln County Health Department. The topic for December is “Winter Care Tips”.  Anyone is welcome to attend. For questions you can call Lee Ann Taylor at the Lincoln County Health Department at (606) 365-3106.

Christmas Bazaar at Crab Orchard
Crab Orchard Elementary PTO is holding its 5th annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There are around 20 venders including Jamberry, Signs, American Dolls, Origami Owl, Paparazzi Jewelry, Scentsy, Bath Bombs, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Vinyl, Thirty One, Jennings Home Center, Primitive Signs, Avon, Pampered Chef, Magnolia and Vine Jewelry, Goats Gruff Beard Oils, Christmas Decor, Pink Zebra and Younique. Door prizes at some vendor’s table. Silent auction and refreshments.

Patriot Tax School offering tax class
Tax School offered by Patriot Tax Service: Learn how to prepare taxes in five weeks. Class starts Monday, Dec. 5. The class is offered tuition-free, but there is a charge for the required books. Possible job openings upon completion of the course. Call (859) 583-0798 for more information.

Countywide Holiday House Decorating Contest
The Stanford Lion’s Club is inviting Lincoln County homeowners to enter a countywide holiday house decorating contest. To enter the contest, homeowners must fill out an application which includes their name, address, and signature giving permission to publicize their information on WPBK-FM and/or in The Interior Journal as a competitor, as well as have pictures taken. If selected as a winner, a sign will be placed in the yard depicting the selection by the Lions Club. Registration is $15 and can be mailed with the application to: Lions Club, P.O. Box 143, Stanford, Ky. 40484. The contest is for Lincoln County residents only. Deadline to register is Dec. 1. Judging will be Dec. 9-11 between 5 and 10 p.m. Applications can be found at the Lincoln County Veterans Outreach Center, the Lincoln County Library or at The Interior Journal office.
Christmas parade set for Dec 3
The Lincoln County Chamber presents  A “Frosty” Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in downtown Stanford. Come and watch the crowning of the Snow Queen and her court after the parade. For more information, call Andrea Miller at (606) 365-4118.

Breakfast with Santa
Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office, 104 Metker Trail. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, drink, photo with Santa. Photos with Santa: Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 2 p.m. Kids will see Santa, tell him what they want for Christmas and get a candy cane. Make sure to bring your camera to capture this moment. The library will take a photo upon request and you can pick up your free 4×6 photo on Dec. 8, 9 or 10. Kids will also be able to make holiday crafts. This is free and open to the public.
Gingerbread House Workshop: Thursday, Dec. 8. Come any time between 4 and 7 p.m. Bring the whole family and make a yummy gingerbread house. All materials will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.
Gifts in a Jar: Friday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. at the library. Rita Stewart will demonstrate how to make beautiful, delicious gifts from the kitchen. Space is limited, call (606) 365-7513 to register.

December 15 at 6 p.m.: Assassination at the State House: The Murder of Kentucky Governor William Goebel. Goebel served as the 34th Governor of Kentucky for four days in 1900 after being mortally wounded by an assassin the day before he was sworn in. Goebel remains the only state governor in the U.S. to be assassinated while in office. Author Ron Elliot discusses the 1899 political campaign, the assassination of William Goebel and the resulting political and civil turmoil of this darkest corner of Kentucky’s history.
I Can’t Adult Day: Friday, Dec. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In all the hustle and bustle have you taken time for yourself? Stop by the library and join Jimmie Lou, Adult Program Coordinator, for cookies, cider, Christmas music and stress relieving coloring. Feel free to bring your own craft or last minute present you are working on and enjoy some time for yourself before Christmas company comes for the holiday feast.
