WAYNESBURG – A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a truck from a Waynesburg residence last month and abandoning it in another county.
Billy Goodin, 38, of South Railroad St., was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking of an automobile, $500 or more but under $10,000.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Mullins said a warrant for Goodin’s arrest was served Saturday, Oct. 29. Goodin was located at a residence on Fishing Creek Road and was taken into custody without incident, Mullins said.
According to Mullins, a 1997 Ford Ranger truck was stolen from the residence of Charles Burkart in the Waynesburg area on Sept. 17.
“After the defendant stole the truck, he wrecked it and stole the following items out of it: radio, CD’s, billfold, fishing poles, battery, cooler,” the arrest warrant states.
Mullins said the truck was later found abandoned in McCreary County. The wreck damaged the vehicle and left it with a broken spring on the right-side rear end.
The monetary value of the items taken, in addition to the damage, totaled to $500, according to the warrant.
“The suspect admitted to Mr. Burkart that he took the truck,” Mullins said.
According to the warrant, Goodin also told Burkart he would pay for the damage.
Goodin was lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Jail by about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A cash bond of $1,000 has been set.
Mullins said Lincoln County Constable Delbert Mitchell assisted in the arrest.
