“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5) This was the theme for our 100th anniversary, which we celebrated in a big way Sunday, Sept. 25.
Miranda Brown spoke of how our church family has been a big presence in hers and her family’s lives. The choir sang a special with words “surrounded by so great a love. May all who come behind us find us faithful.”
Aaron Hogue, a former pastor, delved into the meaning of Psalm 100:4-5. A purpose, focus, and response is necessary in understanding both this passage and what God wants from us. “We can try to describe God’s faithfulness, but until we personally experience Him, it is only words,” explained Bro. Aaron.
Following his message, Josh Jacobs and Kallie Bailey sang, “There’s a God who’s been faithful to me. Many times I could not pray; days I spent so selfishly”, but God was/is/and always will be faithful to us.
Bro. Kyle spoke about passing the baton of discipleship onto the next person/generation. Jesus commands us in Matt. 28:19-20 (the Great Commission) to do just that. Consider: Jesus taught the 12 and commanded them to increase. That has multiplied to what it is today. We also “must be about our Father’s business.”
Lunch in the shelter was next on the agenda. In a beautifully decorated area, everyone enjoyed a banquet fit for a king.
During the afternoon service, many members and former members participated in an afternoon of singing, testimonies, a video, prayer and fellowship. Kerry Jones, Lisa Johnson, Kenny Jacobs, Judy Jacobs, Amy, Ashlyn, Emily, and Jacob Liddle sang and played. Joseph Hampton, acting as the “emcee” introduced the former staff members. Sherrie Tarter, Chuck Jacobs, and Paul Hall explained the three markers (banners) that several women in the church had made and hung for display.
The afternoon concluded with the children of the church doing a song centered on the different decades in the United States. Sunday was a wonderful day in which Pleasant View enjoyed each other, thanked God for His faithfulness to our church, and set out to make new memories for the next 100 years.
