Stanford Fire Department
offering EMT class
Stanford Fire Department’s fall 2016 Emergency Medical Technican Class will begin Monday, Oct. 3. Classes will be held Monday-Wednesday each week from 8 a.m. to noon. Flu Shot Clinic
A flu shot clinic, provided by Rite Aid, will be held at the Lincoln County Public Library on Monday, Sept. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your insurance card. If you have any questions, please contact (859) 420-8556.

LC Health Department
to close for staff meeting
The Lincoln County Health Department will close on Wednesday, October 28 at 3:30 p.m. for a staff meeting.

LC Historical Society to meet
The Lincoln County Historical Society will  meet Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library. Guest speaker will be Deirdre Scaggs, associate dean of the Special Collections Research Center, M.I. King Library at UK. Everyone welcome. A light snack will be served. Board meeting will be held at 5:45 p.m. in Community Room 2.

Camp Horsin’ Around
fundraising event
A fundraising event to benefit Camp Horsin’ Around will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the camp ground located at 1159 Claunch Road, Perryville. Activities include music by Cabin Still, Made New, Courtney & Dino and Crosstown; local artists will display and sell original artwork and food will be available for purchase from J’s BBQ, Mickster’s Food Truck, Sweets by Cindy, Golden Nugget Kettle Corn. There will also be a Silent Auction. Bring your lawn chairs! MC’s are Darlene Campbell and Chad Horn. Free Admission.

Party at the Park
Party at the Park – Thriller Thursday will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Southern Veteran’s Park Soccer Complex, 400 Hwy.150 East, Stanford. (Rain cancels). Fun! Fun! Fun! Events include: Costume Contest for ages 0-5 and 5-12 with prizes for first, second and third place in each age group. Judging at 7 p.m.; Face Painting; BYOP – Bring your own pumpkin painting; Music and Dancing including a Thriller Flash Mob; and Concessions sold by Lincoln Co. FFA; Give-A-Ways. All activities are free. Smoking and pets are prohibited at this event.

LC Historical Society
Annual Fall Gathering
The Lincoln County Historical Society and the Stanford Presbyterian Church will host the annual “Fall Gathering” at the Old Presbyterian Meetinghouse Museum on West Main Street in Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. Rev. Jay Mumper, minister of the Stanford Presbyterian Church, will speak portraying the Rev. David Rice, early Presbyterian preacher. Special music will be presented and refreshments will be served following the service. The public is invited to come join in this celebration of Lincoln County history.

Garrard County High School
Golf Scramble
A Garrard County High School Lions Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Dix River Country Club. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. $200 per team, $50 per person. Long Drive Contest, Putting Contest, Closest to Hole, Door Prizes. Checks made to: GCHS Baseball and mail to Garrard Baseball, c/o Lori Delili, 157 Southway Drive, Lancaster, Ky 40444. Cedar Creek Sportsman
Club meetings
The Cedar Creek Sportsman Club meets every third Tuesday of the month with a meeting and meal. Membership is $60/year. Anyone wanting to rent building, please contact Phyllis Adams at (606) 355-0276.

LC Relay for Life Tractor Ride
The annual Lincoln County Relay for Life Tractor Ride is set for Saturday, Sept. 25. Registration is from 8:30-9:45 a.m. and the ride begins at 10, starting from Veteran’s Park for a 22-mile ride through the Moreland area. Lunch will be served at the Moreland Christian Church (provided by the Lincoln County Cattlemen and Relay teams). Bring a tractor, or just plan to ride on the wagon! The cost is $10 per person and includes lunch. Children under 10 ride free. For more information, contact Kenny Stamper (606) 510-4036. All profits benefit the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.

City of Stanford Fall Clean-Up
The City of Stanford’s fall clean-up will be Sept. 26-30 and Oct 3-7. Items to be picked up are to be placed by the curb. In addition to regular household goods we will also pickup tree limbs and branches. All branches or tree limbs are to be no longer than 6 feet in length and must be bundled. Items that will not be picked up are tires, batteries, paint and hazardous liquids.
Community Needs Forum
A Community Needs Forum will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at Bluegrass Community Action Partnership, 201 E. Main Street, Suite 5, Stanford. Help us reach everyone in need! Your voice counts. Lincoln County needs you, too.

Open Mic Night is every Friday night at 7 p.m. at the historic L&N Depot.

Square Dance lessons

Irvin Family Reunion 
It’s time to celebrate our family! Sunday, September 25 at 1 p.m. at the Broughtontown Community Center we will be having our Irvin Family Reunion. Bring a covered dish and lots of love. All are invited.

Forkland Festival play, race tickets available online
The Forkland Community Center has now setup a system for the purchase of dinner and play tickets for the Oct. 14 and 15 Forkland Heritage Festival and Revue. There are three types of tickets for each night of the festival: Drama Only (no dinner included), Bean Supper and Drama, and Potato Soup Supper and Drama. Go to  http://forklandcomctr.org/joomla/index.php/ticket-sales  and there is another link to go to a secure third-party ticket sales site where tickets can be purchased online.
To purchase tickets for Friday night, select the Oct. 14 event labelled Friday night. To purchase tickets for Saturday night, select the Oct. 15 event labelled Saturday night. After selecting the event with the correct date and day, press “Buy tickets” and you will see the three ticket choices.
The link above also shows a link for the Fox and Hound Walk and Race on Saturday morning of the festival. There is only one ticket or entry fee for that event.

LC Health Department to begin free smoking cessation class
The Lincoln County Health Department is offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program. This is a free 8-week smoking cessation class that is open to anyone living or working in Lincoln County. The nicotine patch will be provided free as well. The class begins Sept. 20 and will meet each Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Lincoln County Health Department. Registration is required by calling Lee Ann Taylor at the health department at (606) 365-3106.

Cliffview’s annual craft fair
Cliffview’s annual craft fair will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to ??? at the Cliffview Retreat and Conference Center, 789 Bryant’s Camp Road, Lancaster (just 2 miles off Ky 34 on Herrington Lake). Activities include food, games, shopping for unique items such as handmade, repurposed crafts, crafts featuring Kentucky, and woodworking crafts made in our local community and nearby communities. 4-H Rabbit Club kick-off
The 4-H Rabbit Club Kick-off will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kings Mountain Community Center. Ages 9-18 years old. Everyone is invited to join our Rabbit Club. Cookies and drinks will be provided at the kick-off. 

Join our Walking Program
Join us for a Walking Program to increase your physical activity from Sept. 12 through Nov. 7. Meeting times are 12:15 to 12:50 p.m. at the Community Building at the Soccer Complex. Instructor will be Rita Stewart. Participants will meet once a week and walk. Members will walk at their own pace and will not be competing with others in the program. While doing so, we will also learn about the importance of walking and other forms of cardiovascular activity in our daily routines. Participants will be asked to keep a walking log and to turn that log in at the end of this program. End of program drawings will be done for all participants who successfully complete the program. Cooperating sponsor is Lincoln County Parks and Recreation. Call the Lincoln County Extension Office at (606) 365-2447 to register.

Trick or Treat at the
Stanford Drive-In
The Lincoln County Chamber Safe Trick or Treat will be held beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, at the Stanford Drive In. Come out for some great trick or treating, concessions stand will be open, movie at dusk. Call Denise for questions, (859) 749-5740.

William Whitley House
October events to be held at the William Whitley House: Saturday, October 1 – Fall Craft Day (Fee applies); Saturday, October 22 – Park Hayride and activities ($5 fee); and Saturday, Oct. 29 – Haunted Trail ($5 fee).  All events and activities require registration in advance. Upward Basketball and Cheer Fall League
Stanford Baptist Church is holding an Upward Basketball and Cheer League. Registration dates are September 24, October 1 and October 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Stanford Baptist Christian Life Center or you can register Monday-Friday at the church office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost for the league is  $60. The league is for ages 4 year olds through the eighth grade. Upward Sports athletes experience the 360 Progression, which is a uniquely designed sports experience that develops the total athlete mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. It is modeled in Luke 2:52 – “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” The 360 Progression helps young athletes discover and develop the skills they need to perform both on and off the field or court. It also creates individuals of strong character, confidence, and faith.  The church is located at 204 Church Street in Stanford. Bluegrass Stockyards Restaurant extending hours
The Bluegrass Stockyards Restaurant now as extended hours. They are open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and later on sale days. They are also open every third Friday night of each month. The restaurant serves breakfast and plate lunches.

Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary
sponsoring Safety Day
Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a Safety Day event on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veterans Park Softball Complex located at 400 US 150 in Stanford. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will showcase Emergency Services in the Lincoln County community and offer children as well as adults the opportunity to see and touch various pieces of emergency equipment, talk with first responders, as well as connect with other agencies in our area that are concerned with protecting the safety of Lincoln Countians. This is an excellent way for you and your family to increase your emergency preparedness as well as express thanks to our first responders for their amazing dedication to our community.
Participating agencies include: Stanford City Fire, Lincoln County Volunteer Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Jail, Stanford City Police, Air Evac Lifeteam, Kentucky State Police, Safer Communities, RECC, Stanford EMS, Lincoln County Extension Office, Farm Bureau Federation, Lincoln County Health Department, as well as many others.  Agencies will have displays as well as hands-on activities for all ages.
The Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital Auxiliary will also be selling hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks, and candy items from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Murder Mystery: Murder at the Walgrave Astoria: Teens and Adults are invited to join us for our interactive Murder Mystery to be held Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library.  Participants will be assigned characters and will work together to solve a murder at the Walgrave Astoria.  This will be a fun Halloween Costume Ball.  Registration is required for this event by Saturday, 10/15/16.  To register, please call the Library at 606-365-7513.
