Webb wins NASRA payday at Ponderosa
June 23, 2010

Junction City – David Webb of Nicholasville drove off with the $2,000 payday in the National All Star Racing Association’s (NASRA) visit to Ponderosa Speedway Friday.

NASRA, which was making its second visit of 2010 to the Junction City oval, experienced a slight delay in its return to Ponderosa with a blown transformer prior to the completion of support division heats delaying action by 70 minutes.

Other feature event winners in Friday night’s racing included John Mulligan of Walton, who won in Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Models, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, who won in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds, and Gerald Haynes Jr. of Somerset, who won in D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman.

Justin Rattliff jumped to the race lead at the start of the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win NASRA feature, followed by Dustin Neat, Webb, Michael Chilton and Dustin Linville. The order remained the same until caution flew on lap 4 for a spin by Bobby Wolter Jr. in turn four. Back under way, Webb, Chilton, and Linville went three-wide for third, with Linville coming away with the spot and giving chase to Rattliff and Neat. Rattliff and Neat had pulled away a bit from the field by lap 9, with Rattliff starting the process of lapping slower traffic one round later on lap 10. The caution waved again on lap 12 when Brandon Hargrove slowed on the backchute with a flat right rear tire. The restart would be brought back as well when Dale Dillon hit the restart cone, causing the caution to reappear.

Linville managed to slip past Neat for second on the restart, while D.J. Wells made his way into fifth past Chilton. Linville, Neat, and Webb battled for second, with Webb winning a three-wide battle for the position at the halfway point of the race. The top five remained the same as lap 20 was scored, but Webb had reeled in race leader Rattliff and had begun a dance for the top spot as the pair started working slower traffic. The front pair went side-by-side for the lead on laps 22 and 23 before Webb gained the top spot on lap 24. Webb maintained his lead the rest of the way to claim the victory. Rattliff crossed in second, Linville was third, and a hard charge by Victor Lee earned him fourth. Rounding out the top five was D.J. Wells.

John Mulligan took the lead at the start of the 20-lap Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Model feature and would never be headed in driving to his first feature win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway. Jeremy Hines nipped Todd Coffman in a battle for the runner-up slot, while Jeff Rawlings and Gary Yeager completed the top five.

The 20-lap Clayton Homes UMP Modified main event proved to be a two-car show from start-to-finish with Jason Wheatley and Bryan Barber battling it out for the victory, with Wheatley taking the checkered flag first. Barber ran second, followed by Kelly Warren, Kevin Nesselhauf and Don Adams.

Gerald Haynes Jr. moved to the front at the start of the D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman and dominated the field to score his second straight feature win in the division. Rick King took runner-up honors in the 15-lap feature followed by Donnie Sullivan, Billy Meredith and Sean Settles.
