Hammack stepping down as Lady Pat softball coach

May 26, 2010

Clinton Hammack has put a lot of time and energy into coaching the Lincoln County softball team.

But with family demands and budget cuts in the school system, he feels it’s time to resign his coaching position.

“I’ve talked to the girls and let them know that I’m going to hang it up after this year,” he said. “I decided probably three or four weeks ago that I was spending an awful lot of time away from family. And, with budget situations hitting like they are, it’s just a good time for me to step aside and let somebody else take over.”

Hammack, who was handed the task of rebuilding the softball program two years ago, went 12-42 as the Lady Patriots’ head coach. He says he’s enjoyed the time spent at Lincoln trying to make the Lady Patriots a better team and that he sees a better future ahead for the program.

“Hopefully, whoever comes in next year will have a good solid team to build from,” said Hammack. “Our jv coming up is pretty decent, they were 17-5, and all but one of our varsity players will be back and they’ll get better. I’m encouraging them all to work during the offseason so that they can start to enjoy successes.”
