Obituary: Dr. Joan Louise Fields, 75

Dr. Joan Louise Fields, 75, of Jamestown. died Friday, March 5 in Lexington.
Dr. Fields was born Sept. 5, 1934, on a farm near Carterville, Mo. She was the widow of Dr. Albert W. Fields. Dr. Fields earned a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Kentucky, taught at Transylvania College in Lexington and the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana) in Lafayette, La., before retiring in 1998. She earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in 1996, writing her dissertation on the poetry of Elizabeth Bishop. She traveled widely in the United States and abroad.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth; and sons, Chris and John Anthony.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, March 12, at Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation (alzfdn.org).
Fox Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
