Obituary: Virgil Oliver Haste, 71
March 5, 2010

Virgil Oliver Haste, 71, of Hobart Lane in Bethelridge, died Monday, March 1, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Born June 23, 1938, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Jason and Abbie Warren Haste. He was a retired farmer and a member of Bethelridge United Methodist Church. He started singing at the early age of 10 with his younger brother Harold and nephews, Louis Randolph and Ronald Haste. He later sang with his uncle Arnold ìMongeî Hasteís sons known as the Haste Family and then with Bethelridge Quartet and the Happy Travelers.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hobert Haste; a sister, Mazie Morris; two nephews, Rick Hendricks and Daniel "Boonie" Haste; and one step grandchild.

Survivors include one brother, Harold Lee Haste of Mt. Olive; one sister, Sarah Jane Hendricks of Eubank; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; six step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; seven nieces; and eight nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (March 4) at Bethelridge United Methodist Church with Bros. Gene Sweet, Doug Stutz and Ray Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Bethelridge Cemetery.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill is in charge of the arrangements.
