Obituary: Hubert Dowell, 74
February 25, 2010

Hubert Dowell, 74, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died Sunday, Feb. 14 at St. Clare Medical Center in Indiana.

Born May 23, 1935, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of Virgil and Ira Padgett Dowell. He attended Chestnut Ridge school in Crab Orchard, built kitchen cabinets, worked for Crawfordsville Casket Co., Sommer Metalcraft, Impex and Metal Forming in Russellville, was a member of the New Ross Country Club and attended Friendship Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Melissa Oaks and Bertha Smith; and four brothers, Craig, John, Dock and Dan Dowell.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Blanton Dowell; four daughters, Ronda Blanton of Louisville and Vonda (Brian) Shively, Angie (Brian) Watkins and Susan (David) Chambers all of Crawfordsville, Ind.; a brother, Robert (Shirley) Dowell of LaPorte, Ind.; two half-sisters, Debbie (Gary) Symonds and Kathy (Palmer) Rogers of Kentucky; one half-brother, Mike Dowell of Kentucky; granddaughters, Stephanie (Kyle) VanCleave and Megan and Danielle Chambers; grandsons, Carl Woodrum, Tory and Brennan Shively, Dustin Hubert and Brian Watkins; one great granddaughter, Amy Nicole VanCleave; lots of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great, great nieces, great, great nephews and friends.

Funeral services were Feb. 17 at Burkhart Funeral Home with Dr. Curtis Brouwer and Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery North.
