FRANKFORT (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Ed Worley of Richmond says he won’t seek re-election this year, opting instead to retire from the legislature after some 12 years.
Worley made the announcement on Wednesday, citing the stress of serving in the Senate while running a small business. He serves Madison, Lincoln and Rockcastle counties.
The former Richmond city manager was elected to the state Senate in 1998, and was elected floor leader in 2003.
Worley said at 53 he simply can’t work the long hours required of a legislator and a construction contractor.
