Festival on tap for weekend

September 10, 2009

Terry Swett, a key organizer behind the Stanford Folk and Bluegrass Family Festival, hopes to fill Stanford’s Main Street this Saturday.

The show kicks off with Dan Waters at noon, with twelve acts scheduled to perform throughout the day. The show will conclude with a jam session with all of the acts invited to join in.

If there is a headliner in the long list of talented performers, it would be Lexington’s Spare Change that takes the stage at 8:15, but Swett expects local artist Jim Duff’s fans to turn out to see him play with The Necessities at 4:15. “Jim Duff has a very loyal following and I think they’ll turn out in big numbers to see him.”

Swett said that there will be a few changes in this year’s festival, the biggest one being the inclusion of folk artists in what had previously been an all bluegrass show. The genres have shared roots and they should complement each other well.

The other change for this year’s show is sponsorship. Previous shows have been sponsored solely by the Main Street Renaissance Committee, but this year the Stanford Lions Club will be co-sponsoring the event. The Lions Club is the world’s largest service organization.

In addition to a great day of music, the Lions will be cooking what Swett called “festival fare”, there will be inflatables for the kids, craft sellers, and Patriot Sports is sponsoring a corn hole tournament.

Admission to the festival is free.
